The Flower Cup is like a mini world championship and WAGC in one day, with an amazing group of friends, colleagues, and international connections, all in a fantastic atmosphere—topped off with a typical Dutch touch. Everyone involved in trampolining has the Flower Cup on their bucket list and wants to add it to their achievements. 'Been there, done that' is a must for every athlete, coach, and judge. There's hardly any time for a proper warm-up, as the number of athletes in each category is huge, and the fast-paced competition leaves no room for mistakes. Those who make it to the final truly deserve it. In a classic 'Hup Holland Hup' ambiance, the final reaches its climax—Flower Power on the trampoline.

Some memories over the years

The first Flower Cup took place in 1977, where I competed — without even being able to keep my feet together — against Carl Furrer and Stewart Matthews. I was impressed, and that moment marked the beginning of my international career, which now spans over 47 years as an athlete, coach, and international judge. In the early years, sleeping bags were an essential part of your gear. Everyone slept in the hall next to the competition area. Late arrivals would wake everyone up, and landing mats from the competition were used as makeshift beds, only to be put back in place early in the morning before breakfast. Later on, the regional tourism organization (VVV) arranged affordable accommodations with host families. Our team of seven received an address in Aarlanderveen—but without GPS, that 'short' 20-minute drive turned into nearly an hour of searching through a maze of similar small houses. I will always remember Mrs. Karen Reuter, who thought we wouldn't show up. To the entire Flower Cup organizing team—you are in my 'hall of fame' forever.
